Different taphonomic processes throughout the history of a fossil assemblage may preserve, modify or destroy, particular palaeobiological traits, but these processes always increase taphonomic information of the past. Similarly, fossils are affected during later stages of taphonomic history, i.e. excavation, preparation, study and storage of fossils, known as sullegic and trephic phases. Tools used during excavation and preparation of fossils can damage them and produce marks on their surface. Some of these recent marks highly mimic taphonomic marks produced before excavation. Abstract This paper deals with the comparative evaluation of different procedures of salt extraction designed for archaeological ceramics from submarine burial environments. The experimental work was carried out on a particular type of late-Roman cooking ware finds (Pantellerian ware) found in a shipwreck near the shoreline of the Island of Pantelleria (Sicily). The studied ceramic test-pieces were first recognised in terms of bulk characteristics (mineralogy, petrography and chemistry). An important component of the management cost of aqueducts is given by the energy costs. Part of these costs can be recovered by transforming some of the many existing energy dissipations in electric energy by means of economic turbines. This paperwork presents an integrated approach based upon simulation and experimental work for reducing the positioning errors of a small to medium size CNC machine-tools. The approach is intended to be used at the shop-floor level and therefore it is based upon a straight-forward model of the feed drive. The model was particularized with specific data from a CNC milling machine and simulation techniques were used to predict the behavior of the system. Aerobic granulation in sequencing batch reactors is widely reported in literature and in particular in SBAR (Sequencing batch airlift reactor) configuration, due to the high localised hydrodynamic shear forces that occur in this type of configuration. The aim of this work was to observe the phenomenon of the aerobic granulation and to confirm the excellent removal efficiencies that can be achieved with this technology. Abstract This paper presents an experimental characterization and comparison of the performances achieved by a Tubular Linear Induction Motor (TLIM) prototype with different typologies of primary winding connections. Molecular polarizability of semiconductor clusters and nanostructures

Abstract The interacting-induced-dipoles polarization model implemented in program PAPID is used for the calculation of the molecular dipole–dipole polarizability α . The method is tested with Si n , Ge n and GanAsm small clusters. On varying the number of atoms, the clusters show numbers indicative of particularly polarizable structures. The results for the polarizability are in agreement with reference calculations from Chelikowsky. The bulk limit for the polarizability is estimated from the Clausius–Mossotti relationship. Schematic and realistic model calculations of the isovector spin monopole excitations in 116In

The excitation of Gamow-Teller (GT) and isovector spin monopole (IVSM) Jπ=1+ modes in 116In by (p,n) and (n,p) charge-exchange reactions on 116Cd and on 116Sn, respectively, is studied within the framework of the quasiparticle random-phase approximation. The calculations have been performed both for schematic and realistic model situations. It appears that the calculated admixture of the IVSM and Gamow-Teller (GT) Jπ=1+ excitations is negligible and that the contribution to the strength above 20 MeV of excitation energy, in 116In, is due to the IVSM (σr2t ±) mode. STUDIES OF SUPERHEAVY ELEMENTS AT SHIP

An overview of present experimental investigation of superheavy elements is given. The data are compared with theoretical descriptions. Results are reported from an experiment to confirm production of element 112 isotopes in irradiation of 238 UF 4 with 48 Ca . One spontaneous fission event was measured, which agrees with three events of previously measured data which had been assigned to the decay of 283112. However, more experimental work is needed in order to obtain an independent and unambiguous confirmation of previous results.
